Classic Mens Style
Today I am going to touch on one of the classic men’s styles that has cropped up repeatedly over the last century. There have been some rather frightening up-do’s and down-do’s but all of them have managed to find their ways into the hall of fame and stay there.
The 50’s Slick-Back:
There were some seriously iconic members in the time of the 50’s that all prescribed to one mind-blowingly sexy hair do: the sleeked-backed, gelled-backed, slicked-back hair do. Elvis Presley, James Dean, Mr. Sean Connery as James Bond are just a few examples of this sophisticated and handsome hair-do. Of course- they were trendsetters, at the time and still today. This sleek look is seen all over the place today- on the runway, at movie premiers and even through daily life.
To achieve this look:
This look has to do with two things: the cut and the gel. This slicked-back look itself is created by those with short hair. It is possible to still sleek your hair back if you have long hair, but it won’t achieve this exact look. Your hair should be short on the sides and short on the back, with a little extra length on top.
In order to style this look:
Wash and towel dry your hair, leaving it with some substantial dampness in it. Comb back all your hair with a fine-toothed comb; this will create texture in your hair. Once it is brushed back and in place apply a strong hold gel in order to keep every lock where you want it. The amount of gel you use will depend on the thickness of your hair, thinner hair will obviously require less to keep it in place while thicker locks may require a few more squirts. Once you have applied your holder, comb through your hair once again- either with your fine-toothed comb or with your fingers; choose whichever conditional to the texture you’re looking to create.
